Organizations were encouraged to participate in monthly audioconferences on topics related to pressure ulcer prevention and treatment. The first six calls were offered at no charge to participants through the generous support of Independence Blue Cross, Capital Blue Cross, and Highmark Blue Shield. The remaining audioconferences were funded through a generous research grant from Medline Industries, Inc.
The April 16th audioconference, “Facilitating Physician Engagement”, featured a presentation by Alice Rocke, MD, a board-certified general surgeon with subspecialty training in wound care and lymphedema. Dr. Rocke practices at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, where she has spent the majority of the past nine years providing wound care in a variety of settings.
The April 16th call emphasized the importance of physician involvement in the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers and provided participants with a list of techniques to engage them in this multidisciplinary effort.
