On February 5th, 140 people representing 31 hospitals and health systems in Southeastern Pennsylvania attended the annual Partnership for Patient Care Leadership Summit at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. The event launched the Partnership for Patient Care's 2009-2011 initiative: to assess and improve patient safety culture using concepts of high-reliability performance. Craig Clapper and Carole Stockmeier of Healthcare Performance Improvement (HPI), the firm engaged to lead the initiative, presented key principles of reliability and accountability. They also led a session that identified readiness for patient safety culture change.

Also presented during the summit were highlights of the Partnership for Patient Care’s 2008 initiatives on Wrong Site Surgery Prevention; the Pennsylvania Pressure Ulcer Partnership; and the Fight MRSA Alliance.
