Environmental best practices were developed by hospitals in the Green Hospital Pilot under the grant program administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. These best practices have been compiled for use by hospitals both within and outside the region to develop their respective environmental goals.
Listed below are best practices for reduction of solid waste, red bag waste, and pharmaceutical waste; environmentally preferred purchasing policies; high performance building summaries; and other environmentally preferred practices of pilot hospitals that can be adapted for use by other hospitals.
